(Video) Chelsea ace involved in brawl 122 seconds into first pre-season game.
Pre-season is supposed to be a low-key affair in which teams work to improve their fitness for the upcoming season, but it’s evident Chelsea and Wrexham didn’t get the memo. Enzo Maresca’s debut game in command ended in a 2-2 draw, with goals from Christopher Nkunku and Lesley Ugochukwu, but the game quickly turned ugly.
Wrexham’s James McClean, known for his fiery personality, made a late challenge on Levi Colwill, which the defender was not impressed by. Colwill quickly confronted McClean and grabbed his shirt, nearly pulling it over his head, before players rushed in to break up the fight, with Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson becoming involved in separating the two. Neither player was booked, most likely due to the fact that it was a pre-season game, but the furious start was probably not what anyone had in mind and was not in keeping with the spirit of the friendly.
Colwill is expected to be a vital player for the Blues this season, and he has switched to number 6 for the current campaign. Chelsea return to action on Saturday against Celtic in the second game of their tour, as they prepare for next season.
