Enzo Maresca confirms key Chelsea player will miss Atalanta – but good news on Liam Delap!
Chelsea fans, get ready — things just got a little confusing before the big Champions League game against Atalanta!
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has finally given an update on the team, and it’s a mix of bad news and good news.
Bad News First
One important Chelsea star will not play the match. This is a huge worry because Chelsea just had a rough week, getting only one point from their games against Leeds United and AFC Bournemouth.
Because of this, the Blues dropped out of the Premier League top four — not good at all.
And now, heading into the Champions League, Chelsea must win. If they lose to Atalanta, the Italian team will jump ahead of them in the table.
Chelsea could even fall out of the top eight because the gap between the teams is very small.
What About Liam Delap?
Here’s where the good news comes in!
Liam Delap hurt his shoulder in the last match and had to leave the pitch. Fans feared the worst… but Maresca says:
No bone is broken!
Chelsea still don’t know exactly how long he’ll be out, but the fact that there’s no fracture is a big relief.
And
Another important forward, Cole Palmer, will also miss the game. Maresca says he can’t play two matches in three days, so they’re protecting him to avoid bigger injuries.
Finally… Good News!
Two big names are back:
Reece James
Wesley Fofana
Both players are with the team and available for the match. Maresca says the final starting lineup will be revealed soon
